Role Overview
This is not a role for someone looking to check boxes. The Principal at Artha Group sits at the centre of everything that matters: deal conviction, portfolio impact, team culture, and the firm's long-term growth. You will be the bridge between where we are and where we are going, between the founding team and the partnership. We want someone who brings sharpness to every investment decision, genuine care for how they lead, and the resilience to thrive when the stakes are high. If you are driven by building something that lasts and by doing it the right way, this is the role for you.
Key Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management
- Own the growth agenda of portfolio companies. Go beyond oversight and get into the work, providing strategic direction and operational guidance that meaningfully moves the needle.
- Be the kind of leader founders call when things get hard. Showing up with clarity, steadiness, and real answers in high-pressure moments is a core part of this role, not an exception to it.
- Use technology and AI-powered tools to monitor portfolio performance at scale, identify risks early, and surface opportunities before they become obvious to everyone else.
Investment Execution:
- Lead the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of new investments across AI-native businesses, deep tech, and high-conviction sector themes aligned with Artha Group's strategy.
- Own the deal timeline. Drive the investment process forward with urgency, clear out bottlenecks, coordinate across all stakeholders, and ensure every deal closes within the firm's defined timelines. Delays are not acceptable when the right opportunity is in front of you.
- Form views fast, commit with conviction, and defend your position. In a market where the best companies have options, the ability to move decisively is a competitive advantage.
Fundraising and Investor Relations:
- Play an active and visible role in fundraising, building new LP pipelines and deepening relationships with institutional and large investors.
- Keep investors informed with structured, data-backed updates that reflect the quality and discipline of the firm's approach.
Team Leadership:
- Lead the team with real empathy: understand what drives each person, create the conditions for them to do their best work, and invest in their growth with the same seriousness you bring to deals.
- Set the tone when things are difficult. The team looks to this role for steadiness and direction when the environment is uncertain or the pressure is on. That is a responsibility, not just a skill.
- Build a culture where intellectual honesty, high standards, and genuine collaboration are the norm, not the aspiration.
Strategic Initiatives:
- Partner with managing partners and investment committees to shape the firm's forward agenda: identifying new themes, stress-testing the portfolio strategy, and ensuring Artha Group is always playing offence.
- Take ownership of specific firm-building initiatives that go beyond deal execution and contribute to Artha Group's reputation, reach, and long-term competitive position.
- Develop a sharp, well-informed perspective on emerging sectors, including applied AI, climate tech, and defence technology, that the firm can act on.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (MBA or CA), with additional qualifications highly regarded.
- 8 - 10 years of experience in venture capital or private equity, with a meaningful track record across portfolio management and investment execution.
- Strong ability in deal sourcing, due diligence, financial analysis, and negotiation. Comfort with AI-assisted research and modern deal workflow tools is a genuine advantage.
- Proven underwriting discipline and the ability to hold conviction in a selective, quality-driven market.
- A communicator who can build trust with founders, align internal stakeholders, and present investment theses with clarity and confidence.
- Someone who brings a technology-first mindset to how they work: always looking for smarter, faster, and more rigorous ways to get to the right answer.
Compensation:
Total Annual Compensation - ₹45,00,000 + Performance-linked upside tied to portfolio scale and outcomes
- Fixed Salary - ₹36,00,000
- Retention Bonus - ₹4,00,000 (paid annually)
- ESOPs - ₹5,00,000 (annual grant, subject to vesting applicable)
